SHRM Certification Requirement Change

    Starting May/June 2011!

    Sixty (60) recertification credit hours are required every three years to maintain your certification. The recertification requirements are in place to ensure that you increase your HR knowledge and expertise. Because the HR trends, practices and policies are constantly changing, achieving these requirements helps you stay current in the HR field. See below for in-depth information on the changes to be enacted for May/June 2011. 

     NEW EXAM REQUIRMENTS FOR 2011

    § The last PHR, SPHR and GPHR exams to be administered under the current eligibility requirements are in December 2010 – January 2011

    § The new eligibility requirements will begin with the May/June 2011 exams

    § New requirements for the PHR will be: o 1 year demonstrated professional (exempt level) HR experience with a MASTER’S DEGREE OR HIGHER

    o 2 years of demonstrated professional (exempt level) HR experience with a BACHELOR’S DEGREE

    o 4 years of demonstrated professional (exempt level) HR experience with LESS THAN A BACHELOR’S DEGREE

    § New requirements for the SPHR will be: o 4 years demonstrated professional (exempt level) HR experience with a MASTER’S DEGREE

    o 5 years demonstrated professional (exempt level) HR experience with a BACHELOR’S DEGREE

    O 7 years demonstrated professional (exempt level) HR experience with LESS THAN A BACHELOR’S DEGREE

    § New requirements for the GPHR will be: o 2 years demonstrated global professional (exempt level) HR experience with a MASTER’S DEGREE

    o 3 years demonstrated professional (exempt level) HR experience (with 2 of the 3 being in global HR experience) with a BACHELOR’S DEGREE

    O 4 years demonstrated professional (exempt level) HR experience (with 2 of the 4 being global HR experience) with LESS THAN A BACHELOR’S DEGREE  

    RECERTIFICATION
